Meet Bennett! This handsome pup is an American Bulldog mix around 8-9 months old. Shortly after Bennett came in as a stray, he was diagnosed with Parvo. Sweet Bennett fought so hard and despite how horrible he must have felt, his tail never stopped wagging. Now he is happy, healthy and full of life! He loves people and attention, he does well with other dogs and is just a joy to be around. This handsome boy deserves his forever home to grow up in!

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-03-00485Peanut (male)
Peanut is an amazing, loyal, sweet boy that everyone that has ever gotten to know him have fallen in love with him. He is a beautiful and strong purebred and it is recommended that a strong, male handler preferably, adopt Peanut. Peanut likes to be near humans, but does not need constant attention or petting. I have moved to the city and his fear toward other dogs are causing lots of anxiety for him and me. I need to protect him and find a home that can give him the love but in an environment where there is little contact with other dogs. He is not a huge fan of walks, but lives to play ball. He can be left at home for a while if you work, but he needs some sort of security, stability, and routine. He is incredibly healthy and has barely had to visit the vet his entire life, except for routine stuff. (Less)

Animal ID: 16-06-28-00466Josie (female)
She is a beautiful, Smart, and goofy girl. Meet Josie, a 13 month old female brindle American Bulldog. She is house trained, spayed, and current on her vaccinations. She has passed level one obedience training at the Contented Canine's facility in Moline, IL and I am currently working on level two with her. Since Josie is a large canine that is full of energy and can be stubborn, she will need a patient yet firm leader/owner that will continue to work with her. She is a strong girl that likes to play rowdy at times but with the right guidance she can learn the proper way to play and socialize. Josie would do best in a home without cats, although she is currently in a home that has two of them. With time and supervision they have learned to get along well. Children 6 and up are preferred due to Josie's size and energy. She is a dominant female who can get along with others, but it would be best for her to be in a home without another dominant dog. She has shown some signs of stranger danger but is being worked with on her socialization skills. Truly it is all about her excitement level when she is being introduced to people or other dogs. With training and patients she is learning how to properly meet others. She has also undergone CCL (ACL) surgery on her right back leg and will need to have the same surgery done on her left back leg. I am willing to cover that expense and just want to make sure she is placed in a great home. This beautiful miss didn't have a fair shake at a forever home but I hope to find someone out there just for her. She has all the love and affection in the world to share with that right owner that will stand by her. Need a Home Hopefully by August 2016. Willing to travel with her too. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-24-00565Graham (male)
Graham is a snuggly hunk of a three-year-old, 70-pound, patch brindle male American Bulldog-Mix looking for a loving guardian. Graham loves everyone he meets - including children. He is an attentive and loving companion who brings a smile to everyone's face with his playful spirit and goofy antics. Graham's tail is always happily wagging; he is smart, friendly, playful, loving and sweet. He likes to be a part of whatever activity you're participating in; so, if you are working in the kitchen or at your desk he will most likely plop himself down at your feet. If he wants to play or go outside he will nudge your arm with his head to make sure you know. His favorite things are bully sticks, rope toys, tug of war, sticks, large plastic juice containers and apples! Graham is housebroken, knows the commands sit, stay, go to your bed, waits to go out the door and come when called. Graham is great on leash and good in the car. He is looking for a home in a quiet neighborhood as the only pet in the home. To meet and possibly foster and/or adopt Graham, please contact Diana at firstname.lastname@example.org or 773-899-1960. Graham is very healthy, neutered, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm-tested. His adoption fee of $200 benefits the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-22-00268DUTCHY (male)
My job is changing, and I am looking to find a very good loving home for our dog. He is wonderful with adults, and children. Completely house broken, great with home & property, loves lots of attention and TLC. Will be extremely picky to whom he goes with. I would not put him with other dogs at this time, because he was attacked by a pit bull last summer. Not sure how he would act. Never been around cats. Was good with our parrot. Has no health problems, up to date on vaccinations. Just a very good, loving, loyal Boy.

Animal ID: 16-007Kain (male)
Kain is a young American Bulldog around 18 month old. He has been fully vetted, up to date on his shots and ready for his forever home! Kain loves his chew toys, or just cuddles on the couch. Until our below zero tempetures hit he loves going on walks with his foster Daddy. Kain lets you know he has to go potty has not had accidents at his foster home. Kain is not a fan of cold weather and will wear a sweater with out any trouble at all, he is all for warmth. Kain is living with two small dogs at his foster home. We are not sure on how he would do with cats. Kain is picking up on all he is learning at his foster home. He is a complete fun loving boy Due to Kain's size we would want to have kids in the family meet with him; we want all to get along and him to not knock one down by accident. He is very loving. |Rescue Me ID: 16-04-20-00277Meatball (male)|
It's a spicy Meatball! This big lug of a dog is the definition of comfort food: warm, satisfying, and super beefy! Meatball is a one year old American Bulldog/Am Staff mix who came to ACL when a volunteer found him outside his work, running stray. Meatball is just the best - he's great with people of all ages, other dogs who match his vibe, and he might make the perfect companion to a dog-savvy cat. Meatball is easygoing and tolerant, and he loves absolutely everyone! He is quite the beefcake, so he could use some training to help him learn his size. He definitely prefers strong, confident handlers - like any good teenager, he likes to push his boundaries and see what he can get away with! If you respond with firm, loving guidance and leadership, he falls right in line. He's not the best choice for a timid or hesitant handler, though. If you're feeling ravenous for love and affection, maybe you need to order a Meatball! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 12-08-23-00188Lucky (male)
Lucky was saved from a kill shelter at his last hour. He is a very sweet boy with people (don't know about children), but does not get along with other male and some female dogs. He has had no training, which would probably help, but would be best as an only dog. He knows how to use the doggie door to go potty. Loves to play fetch. Loves petting. We are in the St. Louis metro area (in IL)

American Bulldogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The American Bulldog is an athletic, determined, loyal, and highly devoted breed. American Bulldogs are very affectionate towards children but should be supervised because of their strength. American Bulldogs are very protective of their masters and make great guard dogs. An American Bulldog can do fine in an apartment if it gets enough exercise and is walked daily. Like the English Bulldog, the American Bulldog tends to slobber.
